Life is Too Short to Sleep
Life is too short to sleep
Nights become extended days
As bills pile up and books become your walls
Classes fill up your autumn, winter and fall
And then you spend your summer paying off those three seasons
You find yourself working hard
Not just with studying
But at your job
Where you take care of energy boosting children
Which you once swore were gifts from God
You wanted six for yourself at first
After three months at the job, maybe four
After six months, three maximum
After a year? You’re considering getting your tubes tied
You went from loving children
To swearing they purposely downed 60 pixie sticks before coming in
Just so that they can suck out your energy in an hour or less
But you still go
Right after class
With a smile on your face
And gleam of hope that it is all worth it
You get home at eleven and start your homework
If its a good day, you get in bed by sunrise
Then get up two hours later
Life is too short to sleep
But never forget to dream
