A Letter to Society

Dear Society,

Why?

Why do you do this?

Hate.

Why… Why do you hate?

Why choose to let difference divide you?

Is there a joke I can’t seem to get?

Is this a game you choose to play?

Is this something you think will just go away?

Well your little game is more like a rollercoaster;

It goes up and down,

Looking better at times and full of promise,

Before plummeting people down into a swirling ball of hate.

You look left and see a protest to make people “go back to where they came from”.

You look right and find a woman beaten and raped because she said “no”.

You turn to run to see a couple mugged and robbed for being gay.

You try to stare ahead for something better...

and there is nothing but hate.

I’m sorry society.

You had a choice,

And you choose hate.

It’s been engraved in you.

You cannot un-engrave it,

Only try to dig it out with the knife you killed love with.

Come back when you realize that you’ve made a mistake.

Sincerely,

A Girl in Search of Peace
