A Letter to My Lover (Dearest Lover)

Dearest lover,

I awoke this morning to find you had gone.

No note,

No flower,

No sign of your existence at all

Except for the sour taste on my tongue

And the faint smell of your deodorant on my sheets.

I hope you find yourself soon.

Dearest lover,

It’s been two weeks.

I haven’t washed my sheets yet

But I can’t smell you anymore.

I see your faces on the people I know you longed to be.

I miss you terribly.

There is a bouquet of daisies on your porch

And a written note in the mail.

Come home soon.

Dearest lover,

Your mom called me last night.

She said she thought you were happy now.

I finally cleaned my sheets,

But the detergent smells like you.

I bought a single daisy today.

I don’t have the words to leave a note on your coffin too.
