Learning to Swim

I have learned to swim all on my own

Chose the toughest battles

Got through them both

Spent my whole life just picking sides

Should I please the wealthy
Or ones who are kind?

I have learned to breathe without their help

Saw an in between

Reclaimed myself

Didn’t know it all could come crashing down

Till I stood there without a crown

There ain’t always gonna be a silver lining

To save us from our wars

Leave the lost ones far behind us

Learn to fight through it all

They say it takes time to heal this

But I’ve waited my whole life

There ain’t always gonna be a silver lining

But I’ll keep trying with all my might

I have learned to see beyond the lies

Put on a better face

With a stronger mind

Yes I have learned to know when things aren’t all fun

But there’s no stopping what you’re hiding from

Switch the ripped clothes

Mend the broken bones

Jump through hoops just to try to prove

It’s all I want

Can’t have what never comes

Won’t find an end that’ll ruin our youth

Yes I have learned to swim.
