Last Summer

Call of the birds at sunrise

Is never unheard and if she’s

Laying with him otherwise

They don’t awaken in time

To bear the weight of risk

She would take

There’s no other words

Than the finer cause

That had left them cursed,

suffering paws

Then she took the blame

The senseless chafing,

Resting, weakened and tame

Love lies between bleeding

No words to describe

Besides curse of contact

Led her away too shy

To sign official contracts

They break when she dies

They choose the option now

Pays way, the sacrificial toll

Two lives as one to defend

With one to grow old

Or one led to its end
