Keys

Through the words flowing from this pen,

almost seamlessly it feels,

I have discovered what lies in the deepest corners of my mind,

things I never imagined I could touch.

People have always told me,

“you’re stronger than you think,”

but I never believed it until I could get it out on paper.

All these poems have taught me that, yes,

the battle I’m fighting is long and hard,

life has no days off,

but everything I was so desperately searching for

to help me win this battle

was already inside me,

locked inside the crevices of my brain.

Poetry gave me the keys

to unlock doors I didn’t know existed,

until the words I wrote took my hand

and led me to the doorsteps.

When I finally pushed the doors open,

the sunlight was blinding.

This poem is about:
Me
