I'm Sorry

Location

If I could change one thing in this world,

I would change the way your heart shattered when I uttered the words “I’m sorry”.

As if my apology would have mended the broken spirit you let slip through your fingertips onto the floor as the waves of salty tears torn down the levee you tried so hard to uphold.

And as your face contorted itself to express your thoughts,

you and I were left with the same question

“Why?”

To this day, I wonder if your heart still aches,

if your eyes still throb,

if your chest is still tight,

unsettled by the endless worry of my own destruction.

If I could change one thing in this world,

I would change the way I became your inconvenience

because “I’m sorry” only made it worse.
