I Want You to See

Location

I want you to see

the part of me

that glass so often hides.

Scrolling down your Instagram feed, you would barely even recognize me.

I want you to see

the part of me

that is hidden by makeup

hidden by filters

hidden by the camera's lies.

I want you to see

the part of me

that looks can't share.

If by any stroke of good luck your vision was taken from you, you would see me in a different light.

I want you to see

 the part of me

that is thrilled to put a smile on a child's face that had just recently been without hope.

I want you to see

the part of me

that will follow in my father's footsteps of becoming a nurse,

but also dares to dream my own dreams.

I want you to see

the part of me

that will travel to poverty stricken areas around the world

and change people's lives.

I want you to see

the part of me

that glass so often hides.

That's the part of me I want you to see.

I wrote this poem with the intention of showing others that pictures can only show so much about a person. Actions speak louder than looks.
