I Dreamed I was a Man

I dreamed I was a monk,
I dreamed I was a man,
I dreamed I was everywhere—
everywhere became what I am.

Our lives form from action,
our thoughts speak desire,
but unless we become aware
we can’t rise any higher.

Take control of the mind
or it will submit to emotion.
Just remember—love
is not a feeling but a motion.

It’s true that anger ripples
outward, but it also returns.
Hatred creates more hatred,
open your eyes and learn.

When you see your neighbor
as a man who struggles,
you begin to see clearly
we have the same troubles.
