I Can('t) Hear You

Location

People ask me why I'm bitter.

I say add sugar, sweetie.

People wonder how I stand it.

I tell them optimistically.

People say why bother with living like that.

I scream "It's my decision!",

but all they give is pitiful pity.

You tell me everyday to ignore them,

but I can't.

How can one ignore a chorus

of eight billion chanting?

The truth in it all is silence isn't pretty.

I still hear you in my heart.

Your words embed within me

worse than the shards of glass

from the smashed windshield of his car

ever could.
