I live in a society in which

the people –

they don’t care.

They tut and they tsk at third-world problems

“Rape is bad”, they recite,

“and dirty water is horrible

and child illiteracy –

heavens forbid that my daughter should ever have to walk the streets alone at night

and drink unclean water

and never learn how to read”

and then they look back down at their phones.

Do they not understand

apathy is the catalyst of these social tragedies?

Do they not comprehend

their inactions are the sources of stagnancy?

We need change

So we must change our mindsets from

“I can’t – but someone else can”

to

“I can – and I will”.
