Humanity

It’s up to us to make it work
but how can we
if death holds sway?
And yet I still say:
no, wait
one minute now,

shut your eyes
see it there
in your mind’s eye
shining from afar
a smile that sparkles?

For me it says
courage stood fast
against the raging storm
and the surge of this turbulent sea.

My heart sings on bent knees
in tune with true nature
I feel such a unity with you
let’s make this happen
inaction strengthens fear
so roll with it now.

The dice do not count
where free will has
its way—beaming
for all the world to see.

What a surprise to pull
together I want to help.

I would surely relieve
the burden of debt
if I could;
trade it all in for new freedom.

But I am not sufficient,
please tell me
what is the price?

Is there one who can pay
a propitiation for all—
for this humanity
that we might not perish
that not even death holds sway?
