Graceful

I'll stay awhile

To see your shining smile.

Lip caught in your teeth,

Smudging the paper to magically

Make a figure emerge.

Breathing life with your pencil with

The blood sneakily tinting

Your cheeks, in a claim

That your art doesn't measure

Up to my praise.

But you, graceful, don't realize

Yourself you cannot see

So instead listen to me.

You are the art.

Eyes to match oceans

In mystery and hue.

Piano hands that speak violin

Leaving fingerprints on a roomful of books

And all over my face too.

Gentle arms petting through the

Thick fur of the animals you love.

Paint-splattered hands, boot-clad feet tap-dance.

Screaming songs out car windows

Hair whipped by wind, tongues tripping on raps

That's how our time goes.

Sleeping at the edge of my bed

After trusting me with dark secrets

And the dreams you had

My greatest honor is to hold you close.

I wil stand fierce guard the night through.

No demons stand a chance,

Because I love you.
