Though I woke before the sun had risen
I was already late, forced to hurry
I would soon break free from the prison
Of the civilized world and its worries.

I am a mountain junkie, a rare breed
I live for the blue jay days and the pow
Hiking the ridge is worth it indeed
The view alone is enough to say, “Wow.”

Today, I could not be more alive
I shout out, “Who needs sophistication?!”
Snowboarding is all I need to survive
The mountain is my world and my nation.

I care not what has been or what may be
I am liberated, wild, and free.
