Forest

The wind in the willow the will o' the wisp
A treehouse down where I used to live
Up in the willow the willow that weeps
Outside the orchard my maple held me

Up in the place where believing was easy
Above the bank where we laughed and got lazy
Back in the woods, found the little lost doe
Down by the dam where we all used to go

Something lies there
Special unknown
Something's back there
If you dare go
Stroking my hair
Something I know
I'm sorry I left there
I want to go home

Is it a place or a time that I lost?
We all moved away got new lives for the cost
There are answers I'm seeking beneath every stone
Where salamanders grubs and newts crawl slow

And I cry while I stand by the creekbed
I look at the carved trees and lay down my head
I'm falling and dying and hollowing out
Flesh and bones back in touch with the ground

Something lies there
Special unknown
Something's back there
If you dare go
Stroking my hair
Something I know
I'm sorry I left there
I want to go home

For once the tears I cry make me whole
I'll have to leave but I finally know
What it was and ever shall be someday
When it's no more pain and all the more play

Because I found the life left in me
In this place I remembered how to be free
No more striving, just rushing water
Held in dirty arms, still the earth's daughter

Something lies here
Special unknown
Memory holds you
Whenever you go
Stroking your hair
Soothing you slow
There's always room here
Take my hand, welcome home.
