Fool

I too,
have played the fool
just like the lyrics
of the popular
song...
Yes,
fool
also known as
trickster-
that common character
subject
of myth and legend
found throughout
literature...
To the Native
Americans
the "fool"
is often depicted
as coyote
- bumbling, clownish
but in truth,
deeply wise-
one who craftily
turns the tables,
has the last laugh
and so I aim to be...
Recently, I've been reading
Sandra Marinelli's book
on healing,
on trauma, illness
and loss
and the role of writing
as an empowering
act
And I've learned
to bury the past,
focus
on renewal
and transform
devastation
into something
dear and defining;
alchemist
I spin gold
sprinkle stardust
from out of
mere ash
as my poems emerge
from the cinders
of pain
a metamorphosis
magical
and ever enchanting.
