Finally Ringing True

What constitutes a mask?
For me, bright eyes, dazzling smiles,
and false perfections
conceal the truth.

Hiding behind the
makeup
clothes
shoes
smiles
laughs
and lies
that no one dares peer behind.

All they see is the blonde,
the pretty one that loves to smile.
The girl destined to follow
society’s view of who she should be.

Behind the shallow mask I wear
hides a girl with a dream.
Hides a girl with a passion.
Hides a girl too scared to do anything.

Fear of rejection?
Fear of failure?
Fear of humiliation?
The reasons come to me,
but they’ve started to ring untrue.

For hiding under this mask
is a bubbling passion.
A passion for
Knowledge
Love
Helping
Family
Faith
Friends
and Beauty.

True beauty
which can only be discovered
as the mask finally falls away.
