Discovering You

Dreaming of the day

When I discover the way you walk

The way you smell

The way your voice sounds deep

When you speak and my ear is against your chest

The way you kiss me gently

But boldly

And the way I feel safe

With your hand resting

On my waist

Some days we'll sit on a grassy hill

Or a lakeside dock

And you'll tell me stories

Of your childhood

Other days I'll learn the way

You respond to my complicated emotions

And I'll learn the way you think

And how you solve problems

And what you love to do

And gifts you love to receive

I'll learn the way you pray

And how you worship the God we serve

I'll discover your leadership

And the way you teach our children.

What comes first and what is next

I won't know till we get there

But I know everyday

I will learn

The details of you

Until the last day

When your life is at its end

Even then in your death

I'll discover how you die

And I'll remember

Every moment

What I discovered by your side.
