Define Me

Wed, 05/03/2017 - 10:22 -- e.l.m.

We are definitely not perfect
And we've never claimed to be.
We strive to be brave,
And allow others to be free
But freedom comes with limits
And its hard to master bravery.

So don't judge us at first glance
As a nation of hypocrisy
A nation of deceit.
We are trying to agree
To overcome our faults.
But we are still young and naive,
Unlike my fellow nations
here long before me.

But we have done great things
We abolished slavery
We fight for equal rights.
So when you look at me
Don't define me by my mistakes
I was young and naive
Define me on how I overcame
I am working on improving me
I will make mistakes
But its time that we see
Mistakes show we are trying
To be the best that we can be.

We are definitely not perfect
But we strive to be.
