Debt That Haunts

I was once a girl

who wanted the chance

that college could provide her.

With hopes of achievement,

and the pushing of parents,

I kept up effort.

But one day those efforts

revealed the unpleasant slap

that is debt's haunting face.

Now I have become

the girl who wants chances

to be debt free

and again able to pursue

dreams of educational gain

and relief from this nightmare,

this debt that haunts.
