DARKNESS

You burn bright like a wildfire

You laugh, smile, and immerse yourself with bliss

And they envy you for your blaze

But they don’t know

The darkness that lingers behind the smiles

You forget everything to be happy one more time

To live in the moment and enjoy

You don’t know when it will all be lost forever

The moment you walk in to

The place they call home

You feel like you are cramped into the tiniest of boxes

Gasping for air

Longing for hope

Searching for light

Surrounded by darkness, despair

and the eerie silence

slowly, piece by piece

you start to shut down

till you are no more

in the beginning you are surrounded by sheer panic

you are afraid as you wonder

“will I ever escape,”

And then that panic

Slowly turns into an eerie calm

As you accept the fact that there will be no escape

Anger and hate is all you know now

And you cherish it

You lose yourself in it

It reels you in to its darkest depths

To the point of no escape

In that moment

The panic washes away and turns into something that you don’t recognize

You aren’t afraid anymore

All emotions shut down

till all that remains is just you and the ever-growing darkness

That’s when you give up

And you turn into someone else,

Something else

The tiniest ray of hope you held onto

Is not there anymore

Its lost forever

And the fire that once blazed

Is all ash and darkness
