Darkness

Location

Day by day,

Night by night,

I see a ray,

But no true light.

I sit and wonder,

Is it me?

Why is “it” so hard to see?

They say “it” is there,

Standing, oh so bright.

I don’t believe them.

I think I’ve lost my sight.

For all I know is just one thing,

The darkness is all encircling.

Once it grabs,

It will never let go,

No matter how much you smile,

You will still feel low,

Broken down, unmoving,

Just like so.

“It” is said to be wonderful,

All powerful,

Indestructible!

Do they not see “it” has already broken,

And there is no use to trying to push “it” open?

If there is anything I learned from all this pain,

No one is ever truly sane.

We can pray for there to be a mane,

But the rain will only destroy that which is our cane.

Do not hope for what you cannot own,

For danger can make you prone,

To all the darkness I must see,

Then will you understand my blindness

And let me be.

Darkness consumes,

It leaves no trail,

So while you have “it,”

Hold on,

for it is frail.
