Cop Anxiety
It’s an
Anxiety
That doesn’t
Need to be diagnosed
But it’s felt
And it’s known
Like
Brown
is the color
Of my skin
And
It’s seen and
It’s prone
To feel this
Anxiety
Around cops
And their unknown.
It comes along
With symptoms...
That make you
Want to
Hold your breath
In the presence of them.
Maybe
Clench the wheel,
try not squeal,
Turn down the music,
And
hope your
Not a victim of a
Next tragic
“Incident”.
Or
Could go as simple
As getting a ticket
With no blood written
Along with it.
It’s a shame,
A ticket
Isn’t the worse
That can
Be presented
With a cop’s
“Stop-and-Inquisition”
If you’re
A
Black citizen.
It’s fact,
It’s shown,
Every time
On TV.
That the stigma
Is still
Alive.
As
If my
Brown Brothers
Aren’t being
Killed
In despise?
By those questionable
Eyes.
So yes,
This
Anxiety is real.
And it’s not
To minimize;
A cop’s moral
Mission.
But to emphasize
The
Abuse of position.
Attached to the same
unjust crime
Being committed.
Avoiding to be
Identify,
By those questionable eyes.
As if it’s not
seen and it’s known.
That there are
Numerous,
Innocent
Lives
Who still need to be
Owed.
Equal accountability.
Because of
Careless acts
Of police
Brutality.
Thus, it’s more than a
Simple technicality.
When
A life is lose
rather than
A matter solved.
