College: The Uncertainty
College.
The place where many are free for the first time.
Where the decisions you make now, will permanently effect you and your future.
The second you step out there is when your journey truly begins.
College.
The place where the "real" world zooms around you.
Where you see many things for the first time.
The moment where you are really on your own.
College.
The place where you live in a dorm and get a random roommate.
Where you wonder who is this new person and you plead to God that they are as "normal' as you are.
Where new friendships are made.
"We know you can do it!" they say as they drive off.
But how do they know?
Do I even know if I can do it?
What if I can't?
College.
The place where you first start to question yourself
Where you have to constantly push yourself to be better.
Simply because that is what is expected.
"Don't let us down!"
What happens if I do?
What then?
Will they still look at me the same?
Or will I be the reminder that success doesn't just come to everyone?
College.
The place where expectations need to become reachable because if not what's next?
Where you may wonder "what is it I really want to do?" and
"Is it weird that I want to change my major again?"
College.
The place where everything is new.
The place where you are on your own and no one cares if you understood the lecture or if you even knew that the homework was due two hours ago.
The place where your sweet mommy and daddy won't stand over you to see if you studied for the big exam that is tomorrow or if you completed the homework on your own.
The place where no one is here to hold your hand and walk your through things step by step.
The place where you have paper after paper due. Those professors don't care that you have 5 other classes, you simply have to get it done.
"Make us proud" they say confidently
Of course you smile back and say "You know I will"! But all the while your think to your self "Hell I scared what happens if I don't?"
College.
The place where pure pressure runs wildly.
Where you have to make the right choices on your own.
Will I bring honor to my family?
What if I fail?
What happens next?
Does he like me?
Who am I?
Can I really do this?
Is the college life for me?
How long should I study?
Am I going to make myself proud?
What do I want to do?
Does my professor want me to be stressed?
Do my parents care?
Should I go out tonight?
When should I do this paper?
Does my roommate want me to lose my mind?
But that's the true beauty of it all I suppose.
It's the uncertainty in what comes next.
Discovering who you truly are.
College.
The place where new relationships are made and worn out ones vanish like smoke in the air.
The place where you learn your own self control and you begin to get used to answering questions that you relied on your parents to answer for you. "No I can't go out to night I need to study" or "Yes I would love to take a break."
The place where you not only learn the Sciences and Maths and History but where you learn about yourself and your personal strengths.
The place where you make those wrong choices and have to learn life lessons from your mistakes. And sometimes that's all it takes.
The place where you discover your own true character and beliefs.
College.
It's about the uncertainty.
It's where the shy girl in high school finds her voice.
It's where the wild, go lucky boy turns into the serious, studious student.
It's where parents learn to let go just a little and also where they learn to trust their little babies.
It's where the chick leaves the nest, struggling at times but having to find its own way to get back up.
It's about finding out who you are.
It's about realizing you is in your corner even when you fail.
It's about learning that love from family is unconditional.
It's when you learn those real life lessons and you learn how to be on your own.
It's where you meet new people and learn to create new bonds.
Its college and that's the beauty of it all.
It's a new world full of chances, where you can be who ever you want to be.
College, it's about the uncertainty because that the beauty of it all.
