Breathing is Believing

Hey little girl why are you crying?

Is the weight of the world on your shoulders?

Did the stars fade out of the sky?

Are you sad because he's always lying?

Is it because you realized you're growing older?

Maybe because you find yourself asking why

Did your fragile heartbreak

Set off this earthquake?

Hey little girl do you feel the weight?

Lay your head down and rest

Hey little girl please forget your self hate

Tomorrow could be better than best

All the scars on your wrists

From the nights they were slit

But you're still breathing

Don't stop believing

Hey little girl why are you screaming

Are you sitting by yourself thinking?

Do you feel like everyone's leaving?

You are alone in the night

Everything fades out of sight

Don't stop breathing

Don't stop believing

This poem is about my struggle with depression and suicide. I suffered for years of my life. I felt alone and unwanted. I cut myself just to know I was alive. I never want anyone to feel the way I felt. I want society to realize how severe self harm is and how many people suffer from it. Everyone has the ability to recover from it. They just have to be given a chance to do so. For me, I just needed to know I wasn't alone anymore. I know that now.

Of course you're not alone. I'm always here for you.
