To being unapologetic

They wish to ignore our bodies laying on the ground

They ignore our screams as if we  were clouds

Just carelessly going about their day

as we hang over their heads watching in disarray

I am the tears of black mothers

I am the screams of black mothers

I am the fear in black mothers

I am the doubt in black mothers

But I am also the strength in black mothers

The prayers of black mothers

The fight in black mothers

I am the legacy of black mothers

The legacy of black girls

Of black sisters

Of black mothers

Of black beauty

Of black women

I am  a history of black girl magic

Of strength and determination

Of hope and faith that not even time can end

Black girl you are a history of black girl magic

Of strength and determination

Of hope and faith that not even time can end

They will envy  us

They may ignore us

They may disrespect us

They may kill us

But they will never defeat us

They will never be us

They will never understand the power entwined in us

They will not say our name

But I will

Each day  I will

The magic that flows through our veins and into the air they breathe

Will whisper our names as they try to leave

Each of us buried in silence and fear

But with each body that touches the floor a new one grows

Stronger and sure

That this black girl magic can't be ignored
