Beautiful Violet

—  There’s never a day you don’t cross my mind.

—  As small as a word, to a memory relinked.

—  It’s only been a few years but I swear,

—  It feels like it was just yesterday,

—  Mom told me you drifted away.

—  I still don’t understand.

—  Maybe just maybe,

—  One day I will.

—  But for now

—  Beautiful Violet,

—  I settle for the occasional memory

—  That flutters through

—  Every so often;

—  And relieve the times we’ve shared.

—  And weep peacefully upon my bed

—  As you smile from above

—  With the man I once thought existed
