Arrogance is a 4 letter word

Location

Opening my bleared eyes
Not clear of what happened
I feel sharp pains clawing at me
Everywhere

I can hear screams
But it's all faint and muffled
My breathing scattered
And body shaking, yet i'm frozen
Not wanting to move

All i could remember of what happened
Was the road in front of me
Then all lights out
Pitch black
Then back on again
My vision slowly becomes clearer

I was behind the wheel
Broken glass glistening
My hands clentching tight
White knuckles and sweaty palms
I glance down
Seeing only fragments of my phone left
And then it becomes clear

I was on my way home
I heard thw inviting ring of a text
Stupidly i responded
Thinking texting and driving
Was something i could get away with

All it took was a tap of 4 letters
And i lost control
My warning signs going off
Just a little too late

I should've listened
It could've been prevented
Could've...
Yet, i was too arrogant
I answered
Took my eyes off the road
Only for a few seconds
And now i'm here
More dead than alive
