The 2000s for an American child

What do I think when I hear someone my age say "I wish I was born in another time." ?

I think how sad. In my opinion I would rather be in the 2000's than the 50's, 60's or 70's

Here is why.

On December 31, 1999 many people said goodbye to a massive century. With war, famines and change, people welcomed the new century. America was still in its American Century and the world was ready for change.

In our young eyes we saw a very different world then the one the adults saw. Some of us were too young to remember 9/11 or the Invasion of Iraq. We were pre occupied with the music or T.V shows.

We the children of the 2000's recall the comforts of that decade. The dreamy boys of the boy band group that dispread only to reappear nearly 10 years later. The crazy lyrics of Eminem our brothers and sisters listened to, or in some cases related to.

The candy that the stores no longer sell anymore. We were curious of the bulky computers on our parent’s desk. If permission was granted we played games. If in a good mood our parents let us use the internet.

As the mid 2000's rolled in we grew up a little. We were all shocked and moved by Hurricane Katrina and did not really understand the uproar with FEMA. We the children went back to playing with the new gadgets and toys that came along in those short five years.

CD players went to IPODS and computers got smaller. The more daring children sat down with their older siblings and watched mature cartoon shows. The sitcom genre caught on to use children and we saw our cartoons being replaced with live action shows and 2D animation replaced with 3D.

Near the end of the decade most of us reached early adolescence. The year 2009 was an impressive wrap up of the decade. One pop culture shock after another, and to sum it all up a new Windows operating system.

We will ask ourselves” what did those 10 years mean to us?”

It was one of the last generations to play outside and mix in with some technology. Today most would prefer to stay indoors and type away. I could not have asked to be born in anyother era.

Not that there is nothing wrong with that. Nothing beats actually having a conversation. For an American child the 2000s will be one of the greatest decades to be raised in. The next decades will have to follow up on social change and new ideas for the next generation of children.
