Big Blue
A
Big
Blue
World
Full of
Dreams
Shimmers
Before
Me.
A
Wish
Inborn
Draws me
Towards the
Horizons unseen.
We can travel
Together as
Equals
Towards
That bright blue
Future somewhere.
A dazzling sun, infinite sky,
A world of wonder and beauty
With one another
We could
Share.
But
It seems
You don’t feel
The same as I do.
You seem to believe
That it belongs only to you.
Planting your flags anywhere they will take hold,
You have carved your name onto that skyline of gold.
You have turned this big blue against me; created waves I cannot crest.
This big blue now beats me and hates me, though I loved it once and still wish to yet.
You watch me drown and then laugh at my pain because you have no trouble staying afloat,
While forcing me to the depths, cursing my breath, and shoving your privilege down my throat.
We could have conquered obstacles together, but instead you became one.
You made my dignity a currency and put a price tag on the sun.
This big blue you claimed has become black, cold, and small.
Still, you’re too afraid to admit that it was never yours at all.
Though “My ocean has a place for everyone”, you swore,
I don’t belong in your ocean unless I’m on the seafloor.
But this world is always changing;
Always becoming new.
So surely one day
It will again
Become
Blue.
