To Be Expected
What's to be expected of me?
To be smart,
confident,
pretty.
But I can't do all of these things.
I'm supposed to make it into college,
get a job,
and above all:
be successful.
I put on a face that not even my family can crack.
I appear
smart,
confident,
pretty.
On the inside?
I'm not smart enough for college.
I'm scared to move on.
I don't think I'm pretty.
What do I want?
To smile at strangers,
save the environment,
and feed homeless cats.
So far, this hasn't gotten me anywhere.
My parents definition of success is different then mine,
so does that make mine wrong?
They have "experience"
and I'm a beginner.
I want to define success on my own.
But my question is,
what's to be expected of me?
