Gone to Waste
there were pretty daises
but the lights are all gone
the sun’s on vacation
the stars have seen a galaxy
far more beautiful than ours
they’ve gone on a journey
the light bulbs have burst
the powers had enough
he’s through with selfishness
more and more we ask of him
less and less we ask about him
how are you?
the moon’s all alone
most of her companions
are off on an adventure
searching for good, better, best
beauty is prize they seek to win
but she knows it has no victor
there were pretty daisies
but we let them all die
we wandered away
or sought only to obtain
we saw them wither, wilt, rot
we’ll plant again when the light’s come home
the sun became greedy with appreciation, the stars got lost and left us behind, the power got drunk and popped too many, the moon got lonely and forgot how to shine and daisies forgot how to grow.
