Dear outside world,
I watch from the inside
as everything passes me by,
noises and people and my family,
I’m here,
trapped behind bars,
afraid and hungry,
My childhood was full of dreams
Dreams that included a house full of dogs
And a yard full of livestock
I was devastated at age four
He whimpers as I close his cage
What if he’s gone in just a few days?
I start to cry as I walk away
His life could be over, like turning a page
