More Than the Eye Can See

Location

My mind is whirling a million miles an hour,

what do I become when I remove the filter?

I’ve hidden for so long I don’t know what is underneath,

is there even anything left?

Remove the filter and see the shambles of my life:

A crying mess at two in the morning,

the stress of life too much to handle.

The “perfect” girl whose life is not in order.

Remove the filter and see the hurt:

The “friends” I’ve lost,

who were never truly friends.

I’ve learned that seven years of friendship

can mean absolutely nothing.

Remove the filter and see the lies:

“I’m okay, I promise.”

No one truly knows how much I’m hurting,

not even the friends I have left.

Hell, I can’t explain it to myself.

Remove the filter and see the uncertainty:

Do people honestly care about me?

It doesn’t feel like it,

they’re better off without me anyways.

Remove the filter and see the denial:

I’m too blessed to have thoughts like that,

I can’t be depressed.

My life is too good for this,

other people are suffering worse than I am.

Remove the filter and see the hope:

Soon this will all be behind me.

I can reinvent myself,

no longer will I be a doormat to others.

My life will be under my control,

not anyone else’s.

Remove the filter and see the dreams:

The many hopes and aspirations I have,

the world will be different because of me.

My life will be important to others.

Remove the filter and see the real me:

See the girl who silently struggles,

but never asks for help.

See the girl who always puts others before herself,

even when it isn’t good for her.

See the girl who is still learning to be herself,

not what other people say she should be.

See the girl who isn’t perfect,

but tries so damn hard to be.

Remove the filter and see:

At the end of the day,

I’m just like you.

A mess, yes,

but a mess whose life is ahead of her.

A mess who is ready to conquer the world.
