Memory

Your memory overtakes me

I drown in it

It kills me slowly

And I welcome it

I welcomed all the pain

You ever gave me

I took everything

You couldn’t handle

I took everything

You didn’t want

And I bear that weight

So you wouldn’t have to

And you said you loved me.

My memory no longer trails you

You rise above it

It left you long ago

And you welcomed her

You welcomed her like

I was never there

You took her faults

Because mine were too much

You accepted her love

For you no longer wanted mine

And I bear the weight

Of my loss

Because I still love you.
