I Am Woman!
Take my make-up, and my heels.
Take my fancy clothing and jewelry.
It won’t affect my living even though,
Of course everyone needs to look nice when it comes to going out
But fuck that, I don’t need to look nice at home nor school
Who am I impressing?
Now if you take my sweat pants, my sneakers
You’re taking me away because that’s how I feel comfortable.
I like my messy hair days
When I wake up and find sweats on the side of my bed
That’s when I find my wardrobe
What do you really call the girl that’s comfortable with glasses?
A nerd? A geek? But
The only make-up I need are my glasses
Fuck that you look better without them bullshit
Just because I am woman
Where men dominate don’t mean shit
Fuck that he’ll have a better education than you because he’s a man
He’ll have a better job than me
He’ll work more than me because he is a man
BULLSHIT! A woman can do anything a man can do
I don’t believe in the bullshit that women have to be housewives
All this women only have kids and take care of them is a lie
Now there are women who want to stay at home and do that that’s great for them
I don’t judge that but not trying to be stuck in four walls
Who makes you now?
Society does but break the status quote
Dress how you want to
Wear make-up when you need to not everyday
Show yourself off because you deserve it now
While you’re spoiling yourself you’ll find
Yourself dressing like a woman, not a whore
See yourself smiling more because you’re comfortable
See yourself happier in school because you’re worrying about work not looks
Society shouldn’t have a filter on the woman of the world
Society shouldn’t be the reason why you act the way you do
Acting and dressing like a whore doesn’t make you a woman
Act like a lady not someone you are disgusted by on a regular bases.
I am woman
And I believe that should be who they want to become.
Take my make-up and my heels.
Take my fancy clothing and my jewelry.
I am still woman.
Without a filter, I am and always will be woman

I know that you're shooting for acceptance but when you say things like "acting and dressing like a whore does not make you a woman" or "act like a lady not someone you are disgusted by" you're
1. Slut-shaming women who are comfortable acting and dressing like "whores" Is eeally only playing into society's status quo and gender roles by reinforcing the concept that women should not dress promiscuously, and flirting/whorish behaviour isn't okay for a woman, but is presumably okay for a man
2. You imply woman who act like that are not lady's and you push them further away from society. That they are not proper woman. You don't take into account that some woman are just like that, and that doesn't make them whores and nor are they just trying to get attention.
let's keep in mind jinanaf that poets have the right to express themselves through the art of poetry.
all of us experience life in different settings, different outcomes in which one interprets something a certain way
this is not the place to criticize anyone as a person or a poet
this is an opportunity for someone to tell their own story, we can all learn from one another and embrace it.
there are going to be poems that people may like/dislike, and that's okay
ask questions before you pass judgement

it's about poets becoming a community

The "Of course everyone needs to look nice when it comes to going out" and "Wear make-up when you need to not everyday" lines bother me. A woman can dress up without wearing heels and makeup. Some, like me, wear dress shoes and still go natural for formal events. Nice is a relative term. You inadvertently promote the gender role of how women should dress when they are not casual. Furthermore, some women prefer to wear makeup every day; their body, their choice. They are no less of a woman than those who don't wear makeup daily.

I feel the same way, we all deserve equal rights and shouldn't be treated different no matter who we are. You showed your message in such a realistic stand point. Truly amazing.
