Dear Someone

Dear Someone,

Take a picture of my shadow

Not my face

Because when all is said and done

You won’t recognize me

When your hands grip the corners

Of the old photo

You won’t recognize me

The lips upon your face will mouth the words

“That one girl”

And that’s all you will be able to say

Your mind will go blank

And you won’t even remember

My name

When your feet find their way back there

Nothing new will come to mind

The wind will whisper in your ear

Trying to make you remember what was here

Then suddenly

Out of the corner of your eye

You will see a figure

Dark as night

Your eyes a camera

Capturing everything you notice

But as the sun of a new day

Seeps through the trees

The shadow will disappear

So why take a picture

When a glimpse

Of a shadow

Won’t even be clear

Me
