Statue of Liberty

This is not a recrudescence of racism
In America or in the world, but rather
A continuum of malfeasance, antagonism
And hardcore cruelty of the systemic horror
Statue, o woman of faith and freedom
Stand as a bulwark in the water
Inviting us to join
The masses of people
In the land of immigrants
Statue, whom will you harbor?
A lady at the store once called me
A Great American
Beacuse I gave her an extra discount
Patriotism
With the power to change, I would change power.
The people have to struggle while our leaders just cower.
Few enjoy all the blessings of wealth,

1852.
Where am I?
What is this strange land that we happened upon?
I clutched my mother’s hand tightly,
Nearly doubling over,
At the stench of a strong sense of nationalism,
And pride,
She stands there
Day and
Night.
Never waivering
Never backing down
The rivers water lapping at the
Island edges.
Stars twinkling behind her high
Crown.
Face forward
Anchored and rooted, full of American life.
A peaked crown full of windows,
Unreachable by the public.
Families and tourists gaze in amazement at the
Immense symbol of freedom and independence.
I stand on a pedestal,
In the mist of waters.
Perching, watching-
I stand for freedom,
Liberty and justice.
Yet I cannot give
All that I am.
