Not everyone sees me
Some may not even now that I am there
Not everyone knows who I am
Some may not even know that I exist
I hide on stage, back
I am a name on paper,
not a name in lights.
I could see her face
Deep in the storm clouds
Smiling at me
Saying “Come here,” but how?
I got the crew to safety
Told them to go to their wives
But I couldn’t go
The storm was closing in
The ship wouldn’t survive
The Captain told us to take the lifeboat
“Go back home to your wives”
We all piled in
But we didn’t want to leave
The Captain was adamant

delicate
slender

Get in the racing mindset.
Ports one foot in, and down.
I sit and strap in as fast as I can
Port oars across.
Bow take a stroke.
Weigh enough.
Focus

I can really start living
Joy will soon return
When I quit rowing
My old soul will be restored
Joy will soon prevail
When I quit rowing
