You Told Me

You told me to never give up on my dreams.

To reach for them,

To learn from them,

To embrace them,

You told me to never give up on life,

For tomorrow is not promised,

But to live every moment to the fullest.

You told me to never give up on faith.

To continue believing,

To continue achieving,

For nothing is too hard,

No matter how it may seem.

You told me to never lose my dignity.

To never lose hope,

In loving again,

In healing again,

And in forgiving again.

You told me to never lose my identity.

To always accept myself for who I am,

And what I can be.

Never letting anyone make me feel less than a unique human being;

Created from above,

To grow,

To survive,

And to succeed.

You told me that life may not always be easy,

That decisions that are made

May have a lasting effect on the people we meet,

And the road that we lead.

You told me to take my wings,

And fly to greater heights;

Never being afraid to find my way,

Knowing that the future is within my hands.

This is the greatest joy of knowing what you told me.

My mother is what you’ll always be.
