You Didn't Mean To Fall

Location

Standing still was not an option

You wanted to keep climbing, so we kept climbing.

You knew that I had your back

And we were in love so we both knew that.

But why didn’t you call?

You looked at me and smiled; you told me to close my eyes and dream

Dream of when we’d reach the top of the world that judged us.

And while I was dazed you started to fall

But...why didn’t you call?

You looked back to see how far we’d come

But so called God didn’t want you to breathe, and now we can’t breathe.

I know you didn’t mean to fall,

I just wish that you would have called.

Looking back was not an option

You wanted to look forward, and I couldn't help but look forward.

When I started slipping you wouldn’t let me go

Even when I told you to let go.

But why wouldn't you call?

And though your hope brought me through,

I see now it couldn't help you too.

You didn’t mean to fall,

And I didn’t mean to never call.

You fell so far, I didn’t hear you hit the ground.

I’m the one you finally needed

Sorry my eyes were too closed to see it

Maybe you’d still be here climbing this mountain with me

If I would have just picked up the phone.

And though you’re gone you are missed, and you don’t know how much you’re missed.

I know you didn’t mean to fall, I just hope you know I would have called.

Standing still was not an option

You wanted to keep climbing

So I’ll keep climbing
