You Are

How do I explain

How you make me feel?

There aren’t enough words.

There will never be enough words.

You are a storm

Appearing in my life

Suddenly and without choice

Some are afraid of you

I have always liked dancing in the rain

But you are more than rain

You are thunder

You are lightning

Loud and unapologetic

That drew me it

And it pushes me out

I don’t want to change you

But sometimes I wish I had an umbrella

You are a tsunami

Crashing against a beach

Known but unavoidable

And I am in the sand

Letting you pull me in

There is nowhere to run

And I don’t want to run

I want you in my life

Even if it might kill me

Sometimes I think it’s going to kill me

I try not to think about it

And let the waves carry me away

You are a raging fire

Catching on everything around you

Spreading like an illness

Wreaking havoc or providing comfort

It all depends on who is lighting you

I hope for comfort

I usually get comfort

Once I got havoc

And I learned why fire burns

It is not out of malice

It is just trying to protect itself

You are a rock

A beacon in an unsteady sea

Strong and powerful

You have always been so strong

I admire you for that

It is strange to see you crumble

You never see a rock collapse

Yet somehow you are still so strong

So steady

Unwavering in your beliefs

And in your care

Even when you break

You are still a rock

You are my friend

You are a person

You are nothing more or nothing less

And I am so thankful

Every day I am thankful

You are so much

But above all

You are my friend

You are

Indie bands

Flower crowns

And soft things

Laughter like sunshine

A smile like the sky

So wide and open and free

You are

A rock in the most unsteady of seas

Strong and good and kind

Protection from the storm

You don’t fight back

You simply wait out the rain

You are

Trustworthy

Even after everything

After everyone

I know I can trust you

You’re dependable

You’re wonderful

You are

A friend

An amazing friend

An amazing person

One in a million

One of a kind

You make me believe in friendship again

You are unexpected

Never in my life

Did I imagine meeting someone like you

You’re weird

You’re sincere

You’re someone

Someone I care about

You are hard to explain

My feelings towards you

Are so twisted

So confusing

There are no easy words

One of my truest friends

Yet one of my strangest relationships

You are a good person

You make me believe in kindness

But sometimes I wonder

If you really mean it

When you look at me

You are strong

So much stronger than you realize

You don’t seem to realize

How strong you are

It’s amazing

Your life comes crashing down

And you start

Once again

Picking up the pieces

You spend hours working

And even more time worrying

I worry one day that strength will end

And you’ll collapse

And you won’t be picking up the pieces

And we’ll be left

Looking at the pieces

Of you

You are not alone

You don’t have to do everything for yourself

People love you

People care about you

People need you

Sometimes I think you forget

So please remember

You’re not alone

You don’t have to do everything on your own

You are my friend

You’re a million things

But first in my mind

Is friend

You’re amazing

Outstanding

So many things

Yet all I see when I look at you

Is a friend
