A Word

A word with you cold hard man-
Threw me to the side-
Didn’t care if I cried-
“You’re a worm deep inside”
Father, your words destroyed my pride-
“You’re too old, lazy to succeed,”
Never understood what I need-
A word with you cold hard man-
Always a lecture-
Insults to the core-
My life with you-what a fucking chore!
I was your little dumping whore,
A word with you cold hard man-
Kicked me around like some old can-
Bottled up is my rage-
Each and every time you turned your face-
Ashamed that I caused you some disgrace-
A word with you cold hard man-
Your words beat me like a ram-
My soul caves in like a broken dam-
This young child screams and shouts-
Only to realize, you’re never about….Listening!

This poem talks about how sometimes words can hurt more than actions, especially if those negative words come from our family, or other individuals who are supposed to love and support us. Also, the lesson learned from this poem is that every person needs to be heard, because we each have something important to say.
