Window Dressing

If I pull back the curtain

Will my mask then accept the form of mannequins

Perfectly styled and positioned

Only showing the best I can offer?

Will my true self remain hidden in the shadows

With every part of me that is undesirable?

Window dressing is protection

A mask to cover the damage

A curtain that my insecurities and vulnerability hide behind

Only allowing for a mannequin, window dressed to perfection, to be seen

Empty but yearning to draw back the curtain

Afraid and lacking confidence but desperate to take off the mask

Emotional, passionate, caring, driven, affectionate, adventurous

Vulnerable

Vulnerability is frightening

And window dressing is protection
