Will America Accept the Next Generation of Women in Science?

To the next generations of female scientist: in a country they are afraid to be accept in, You are not alone.

I know it may seem like it, but you are surrounded by the support of the women who came before you, those of your time, and the women looking up to you and all you do. No one in the world can tell you what you can and can't do, and after being told by many people that I'm not smart enough, or it'll be hard for me to get hired to work in science, I want every one of you to know I believe in you. And not one person, not can one thousand people tell you what you can't do. We all believe in you. To the girl in my math class who wants to work at NASA; there is nothing that can stop you. To all the women in my school, the ones I know and the ones I've seen passing by in the hall, dream big and don't let anyone but a limit to your brilliance. To the women on my robotics team, I couldn't be more proud of you for pushing your way to the top, putting yourself in a position where you are learning, prototyping, building, and redesigning. You are one step closer to the people  you want to be beyond the walls of the high school physics lab, and there is nothing you can't do. To my oldest sister who has spent her whole life studying and working to be a doctor, seeing you getting a step closer to your dream inspires me to embark on the journey of my own dreams. And to my other sister who is currently beginning her majors in biology and chemistry, thank you for choosing to introduce me to the wonders of science, and giving me a role model I have seen every day of my life who has passion for science. Thank your for showing me at such a young age that science is not bound to one gender. And to the third grader I met at the robotics competition, who walked up to me and asked what I wanted to be when I'm older, I told her an astrophysicist, and her eyes glistened as she smiled and said "whoaaaaaah". And to the same third grader who told me she wanted to be like me, building a robot in high school, follow through with your dreams and never forget you are the only person that can choose your path in life, and I hope you choose the one that make you happiest. To every girl out there, the ones I've mentioned and the ones I haven't, anyone who's told they can't, you can, and you will. And we will all be with you every step of your journey and when you get where you are going we will be the people who look at you and said "you did it". And to the scared girl who starts her first day at a school filled with nerds, who doesn't think she’ll be able to fit in,  when you're older you think you won't be able to find your place, you'll think that no one is supporting you, and then you'll find your passion, your dream, and you'll find the people that support you, and every day of your life they will tell you "you did it." To all the women I've spoken of, to the ones I've never met, and the ones who live on the other side of this spinning planet in the middle of a vast universe, thank you for telling me, the scared girl who only a year ago started her first day of school with some of the smartest kids she's ever met, that "you can do it" thank you for staying by my side long enough to say "you did it".

With Love,

another dreamer
