When I Finally Told You (possible trigger warning)

When I finally told you,

Your eyes teared up,

I thought I heard your heart crack,

When I finally told you,

I pulled up my sleeves

And showed you my cuts,

And I could already see

In your mind what you were thinking:

Why?

When I finally told you,

I remember your expression,

Your face fell,

You stared in horror,

I couldn’t meet your eyes,

Afraid of what I would find there,

When I finally told you,

You gathered me tight in your arms

And whispered with a crack in your voice

Of how much you loved me

And how much you cared,

And how you didn’t want

Me to keep harming myself,

When I finally told you,

You hugged me so tight,

You told me how strong I was

And told me to never give up on my fight,

And told me to keep fighting to remain in the light,

When I finally told you,

I felt the sun reach down,

And send me a sunbeam of love through the clouds.
