When Did Summer End?
When I was a kid,
my favorite time of year was summer
The heat of the sun
Cool of the splash
joy that you'd come
That was summer fun
Each summer,
for as long as I could remember
you'd make the distance
like the season's ember
We'd play games, day and night
But, every summer, we had a fight
And as more summers came along,
there were less fights and less wrongs
At the age of five
it was spies and super heroes
we were a team
no one could get through
At the age of seven
it was cartoons and anime
so many cards and so many shows
which one first? Nobody would know
At the age of twelve
we pulled all nighters
playing video games
still the ultimate fighters
Summer time, when the heat would rise
No homework, no bullies
From June to September
It was just you and I
As a kid,
I thought it'd be anually
As a kid, I thought
That's what forever would be
But every season has an end
bonds, not matter how strong, won't mend
every boy grows and ages
serperated as time changes
Five summers have gone by
But they weren't the same
I had to focus on school
that's why you never came
Now, things have changed
you're a brick wall
a huge tall tower
top at football
Conversations are awkward
The two of us changed
Are we strangers?
Are we aliens?
Now, things have changed
True, I am still small
But I've gotten faster
Cross country is in the fall
Hours will pass
Till we warm up
but, by than
the reunion is done
I wonder if you look back at summer
Do you feel and remember what I do?
Have you noticed how we've parted?
And all the distance between us two?
I remember the fun
Hours in water and sun
I remember the games
Moments and words without shame
We grew up with one another
You were like my brother
One of the things I regret the most,
I let it end in summer
Now the heat is just a bother
The pool is empty
my room is lonely
Where is my brother?
I lay with the questions and the foe
Where did summer go?
The answers repeat again and again
When did summer end?
