What triumph has victory without strife,

Or glory without deed?

What man has wealth without lack of it,

Or fulfillment without need?

What truth has certainty without doubt,

Not revealed from above?

What man experiences a life without love?

What fire has flame without fuel,

Or peace without war?

What friend has known friends

The same as before?

What foe becomes foe

Without self-proclaimed fact?

What man holds his inhibitions intact?

What creature refuses to eat?

Or hand refuses to feed?

What focus has one who is lost?

For shelter turns time into greed

What hate knows experienced hearts?

Or love without living in loss?

Who would hang humanity

Upon the things we've lost?
