What is strength?

Is strength the power you hold,

Or is it in in your mold?

Is it measured by your muscle,

Or if you win in a tussle?

Is it in the way you stand,

Or the way you raise your hand?

Is it the force in a swing,

Or is it the winner in the ring?

But what if it is the way you hold your head high

As you look your enemy in the eye.

What if it is the way you walk

While people mock.

What if it is in the way you let tears fall

As you meet another wall.

What if it is in the way you smile

While you face another trial.

Strength isn’t how much you lift,

But how much hope you can gift.

Strength doesn’t mean you're a brute,

But how quick you can reboot

Strength is what I see in you

As you beat every obstacle through and through.

I see it as you sit by my side

Through all the tears we cried.

Strength is what I see in every visit to the physician,

And every hospital admission.

Strength is what I see in your eyes

As you listen to my cries.

Strength is in the way you smile

With every coming mile.

Strength is in the way you never give up

Even if you feel like you messed up.

Strength is in the warmth of your hug

When I need a moment to unplug.

Strength is in your voice

As we take time to rejoice.

But really,

As the roads became hilly,

I learned it’s true

That strength has always been you.
