What Poetry Taught Me

Mental wellness has clouded my mind,

But poetry has been there for me,

and taught me how to be kind.

To use my words to fight a patriarchial power,

To not be harsh,

To not be sour.

Poetry gave me the freedom to truly be me.

I didn't have to fit into a scene,

I could just be.

Poetry gave me the outlet for my sadness.

It gave me a way to express myself.

With poetry, I never felt like I was less.

Thank you poetry, you really are the best.

I thank you with all my heart,

With every shred of my chest.

This poem is about:
Me
